I was at the village’s celebrations, as most of the inhabitants of Greenville did, as you already know, sheriff, sharing this relevant day. I was close to one of the huts, the one working as a bar, finishing my beer and observing how my friends managed to dance with the uncultured girls. Suddenly, just behind me, a silky voice came up.
- You are too attractive to miss this dance. -
When I turned around I hardly could say a word due to such a beauty .That girl with that pearl skin, silky black hair and big clear eyes. If you had to identify her, she was wearing a T-shirt with the confederate flag on it, the same she was playing with as she smiled at me. But as I have mentioned before, there was something weird in her. It would be said she was about twenty three although she could have been older according to the deep gaze she had.
It is really difficult to explain but she instilled a kind of wisdom, quite far from her teen appearance.
- Hi, I am Scarlett, and you? - She told me.
- Bobby - I answered as I shaked hands with her.
- Why don’t we dance? - She said.
- I can’t dance at all - I muttered.
- Come on! What a drip! Look how your friends have fun! - She censured pointing at them. As I turned again I could see all of them dancing there, except for Taylor who was walking towards the trees in order to pee and probably to smooth out his inebriation.
"Sweet home Alabama" started playing at that moment so I thought it made no sense to the Lynyrd Skynyrd if I wasn’t able to dance with her. As I tried to ask her to do so she had vanished. I seeked everywhere, a bit upset.

A few minutes later I noticed Taylor wasn’t there so I went to the woods to avoid he could fall asleep as he used to do.When I got to that point I felt really shocked by the scene I witnessed, Taylor was being kissed as he was laying on the grass or it seemed to me.
A bit later I realised his body was shuddering. Scarlett glanced at me and putting her forefinger in her bloody lips, she asked me to be quiet.
That’s why I am here telling this story, sheriff.
- It’s pretty clear guy. Go home, I will have a look. -

A thunderous noise on the roof shut off our conversation and a soft and nice voice said:
- Bobby, I asked you to tell nothing? - His face turned into wax - Why didn’t you obey?
- Sheriff, please, run away to save - the boy added in a resigned tone - I am already dead. It is Scarlett....

Yo estaba en la fiesta del pueblo, al igual que la mayor parte de los habitantes de Greenville, como usted ya sabe, sheriff, compartiendo este magnífico día. Me hallaba junto a una de las barracas que hace las veces de bar, apurando mi cerveza y observando entretenido cómo se las ingeniaban mis amigos para sacar a bailar a las chicas. De repente, a mi espalda surgió una voz aterciopelada:
- Eres demasiado guapo como para quedarte sin bailar. -
Cuando me di la vuelta fui incapaz de articular palabra ante la extraña belleza de aquella chica de piel blanca nacarada, sedoso pelo castaño y grandes ojos claros. Por si lo necesita para poder identificarla, llevaba puesta una camiseta de la bandera confederada, con cuyo extremo inferior jugueteaba sonriéndome. Pero como digo, había algo inusual en ella. Se diría que era una muchacha de unos veintitrés años, aunque su mirada era demasiado profunda. No sabría explicarlo, pero transmitía una sabiduría o experiencia que no iba acorde con su aspecto juvenil.
- Hola, soy Scarlett, ¿cómo te llamas? - me preguntó.
- Bobby - contesté estrechándole la mano.
- ¿Por qué no bailas conmigo? - me dijo.
- No sé bailar - me excusé torpemente.
- ¡Oh, vamos!, no seas aburrido. Mira a tus amigos, ellos se divierten - me reprochó señalándolos, y al darme la vuelta los vi a todos bailando excepto a Taylor, que se marchaba hacia los árboles seguramente para orinar y aliviar su evidente estado de embriaguez.
En ese preciso instante, por los altavoces comenzó a sonar el “Sweet home Alabama”, y pensé que los Lynyrd Skynyrd se sentirían defraudados si me acobardara y no sacase a bailar a la chica, pero cuando me giré para pedírselo ya no estaba. Miré desconcertado en todas direcciones, pero era como si se la hubiese tragado la tierra.

Tras unos minutos, reparé en que Taylor no volvía de la zona boscosa, así que fui a buscarle por si se quedaba dormido con la frente apoyada en un árbol como tantas otras veces. Pero cuando llegué, lo que vi me dejó completamente petrificado. Taylor estaba tumbado en la hierba y alguien se encontraba agachado junto a él como besándole. Pero luego el cuerpo de mi amigo comenzó a dar espasmos y convulsiones. Aún no lo había asimilado cuando Scarlett alzó la cabeza, posando su fría mirada en mí, se colocó el dedo índice de la mano derecha ante los labios, por cuyas comisuras goteaba sangre, o eso creo, y me indicó que guardara silencio.
Entonces eché a correr hacia acá y se lo he contado todo a usted, sheriff.
- Está bien, joven. Márchese a casa; yo iré con mi ayudante a echar un vistazo al lugar del suceso. -

En aquel momento, un ruido sordo y continuo en el techo de la comisaría cortó la conversación de ambos, antes de que una suave voz proveniente del sitio del golpe, dijera:
- Bobby, ¿no te pedí que te callaras?, - el rostro del chico adquirió el color de la cera - ¿por qué no me has hecho caso? -
- Sheriff, huya y sálvese - dijo el muchacho con voz resignada, y añadió ante la atónita expresión del jefe de policía - yo ya estoy muerto. Es Scarlett…

(English version)

- It destroyed me. All my innocence devastated by the one we were obliged to call father. All my childhood intimidated under the yoke oppression of a performed divine word, which was turning into a sin everything which could the question even minimally his crooked morality. But nevermore…
When I reached the age and had enough value to flee, I dragged my aching soul and punished body through the streets, leaving on my own and only this volume in my hands. I have learnt a lot since it happened and I could say I have received the knowledge it contains. I am pretty sure he is not going to share my point of view. Any of those ones who bumped into my life, those who had the Devil’s mark in their eyes, and all of them ended up receiving the odd doctrine I am carrying on my shoulders.

Now I am ready to visit the place which was my home and my prison as well. It´s now when I can say a prayer:
I beg your pardon , my Lord because I know what I am doing. - 

Úrsula got to the place with such cold eyes and that hateful look. Even the blunt gadget she used to give her particular salvation was coated by that hate. As she was approaching firmly to that figure in front of the altarpiece, the whispering from the sceptical people kept increasing. When the priest raised his eyes and saw, an awful feeling flooded his eyes.
- Hello father, can you remember me? - His hands weren't able to hold the holy chalice and it fell pouring The Christ’s blood on the communion table. 
- I am sure you do, I am here to expiate your sins. - She points out to her Bible before sentencing:
- You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free - and squeezing the baseball bat she had until it rustled, she added - because you are going to die today...-

- Me destrozó. Toda mi inocencia corrompida por aquel que se hacía llamar padre. Toda mi niñez amedrentada bajo el yugo de una interpretada palabra divina, que convertía en pecado aquello que cuestionara mínimamente su pervertida moral.
Pero nunca más…
Cuando adquirí la edad y el valor suficiente para huir, arrastré mi dolorida alma y castigado cuerpo por las calles, partiendo tan solo con lo puesto y este tomo en mis manos. He aprendido mucho desde entonces y he asimilado a mi manera lo que dice en su interior, pero estoy segura de que a él no le va a gustar mi forma de entenderlo, pues tampoco gozaron aquellos que se cruzaron en mi camino con la sombra del maligno en los ojos, y que acabaron probando la particular doctrina que en estos instantes apoyo en mi hombro.

Ahora, preparada para volver a entrar al templo sagrado que fue mi casa y a la vez mi cárcel, puedo elevar una plegaria: Padre, perdóname, porque sí sé lo que hago. -

Úrsula entró al recinto con la frialdad inundando sus ojos y el odio enroscado en los dedos que sujetaban el contundente artilugio con el que daba su personal salvación. Se fue acercando con paso firme a la figura que estaba de pie ante el retablo, elevándose a su paso el murmullo de los sorprendidos asistentes. Cuando el párroco alzó la mirada, una desagradable sorpresa anegó sus agrandados ojos.
- Hola, “padre”. Soy Úrsula, ¿te acuerdas de mí? - Las manos del sacerdote, crispadas de tembloroso terror, perdieron la consistencia con la que agarraban el cáliz de vino, y este cayó sobre el altar derramando la sangre de Cristo.
- Sí, ya veo que sí. Vengo a expiar tus pecados. -
Úrsula señaló su Biblia antes de sentenciar:
- Conocerás la verdad, y la verdad te hará libre - y apretando el bate hasta hacer crujir su madera, añadió - porque hoy vas a morir. -
